The Secondary Music School affiliated to the Shenyang Conservatory of Music was established in 1953. It is a public school with a long history and glorious revolutionary tradition. It is affiliated to the Liaoning Provincial Department of Education and directly subordinate to the Shenyang Conservatory of Music. The school has always adhered to the school motto of "Tense, Serious, Hard-working, and Open-minded" written by Mao Zedong, inherited the tradition of Lu Yi, inherited the red gene, kept forging ahead, reformed and innovated, and has now become a middle professional music school with extensive influence in the Northeast region and even the whole country.


The school has three majors: music theory, instrumental music performance and vocal music performance. It has a team of teachers with high professional titles, high education and rich teaching experience. It always adheres to the school-running philosophy of combining theory with practice and conducts in-depth artistic practice activities. The school has successively established the Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Youth National Orchestra, and the Youth Choir, which have traveled throughout Europe, America, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Among them, the Youth Choir won the highest award in the Bremen International Choir Festival in Germany. At the same time, the school often jointly organizes academic exchange activities with art schools in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Germany, France, Russia, Japan and other countries. The quality of teaching has been continuously improved and enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad.


The school has 951 students and 145 teachers. Over the past 60 years since its establishment, the school has sent more than 5,000 graduates to higher art academies and literary and artistic groups, and has successively cultivated a large number of  person with responsible consciousness such as Zhou Yinchang, Yang Liqing, Zhou Haihong, Jiang Kemei, Han Yanwen, Yao Hong, Chai Liang, and Yuan Chenye. More than a hundred people including Zhang Ming, Zhou Yunqing, Xue Biao, Yu Wenting, Li Jinhong, etc. They have won many awards in major professional competitions at home and abroad during the school.


At present, as a training base for well-known music and art talents in China, the Secondary Music School Affiliated to the Shenyang Conservatory of Music is striving to build a high-level, distinctive and international first-class music academy proposed by the Shenyang Conservatory of Music with a brand-new look and concentration. The goal is to improve the quality of education and teaching as a lifeline, adhere to connotative development, continuously deepen teaching reforms, optimize teaching structure, improve management mechanisms, innovate training models, enhance the ability to run schools and provide a satisfactory education to the people and contribute ourselves to the development of music education in China.
